The President's Message

 

Our Purpose .... The Organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Our Purpose .. We are called to feed the hungry. During the summer, children in our communities only receive one meal a day. During the fall and winter, meals are provided at school. We, as United Methodist Women, should remember to feed the sheep by making contributions to soup kitchens, your church food pantry or a community food pantry.

Our Purpose .... We are called to pray. We should use our Prayer Calendar to pray for our mission projects and people serving in mission with the United Methodist Church. The Mission personnel for South Carolina are Mary Lou Eden, Shirley Townsend-Jones, Lynette Thomas, Geneva Williams and Holly Kendall.

Our Purpose... Me should expand our concepts of mission by attending the South Carolina Conference United Methodist Women School of Christian Missions. The theme is "Together at the Table". Our study sessions will be Native Americans, Sudan and Food & Faith.

My Purpose .... I attended Women in the Pulpit Sunday at Cayce United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women Sunday at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church. The women at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church celebrated Call for Prayer and Self Denial in a special way. The women of Trenholm Road named their Women of the Year at their Spring Fling Luncheon. Union United Methodist Women sponsored a night at the arts. The Quilters Association presented heart filled handmade quilts. The quilts brought back memories about my Grandmother. She made quilts so heavy that you could not turn over. They also had The Artful Bra Project. This presentation of the bras was very emotional. At times, you laughed so hard at the designs: Split Bras (One Clemson and One Carolina) and Look at them Puppies (the nose of 2 pink puppies). At times, you cried because of the reason why a particular bra was designed.

Every time I attend an event with the local units, I am overwhelmed with joy and humility. I read Rick Warren's book "A Purpose Driven Life" and God has shown me my purpose through United Methodist Women.
